Storm-related deaths reported in Neshoba and Amite counties

AMITE and NESHOBA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A second man was reported dead in Mississippi due to the storm system that came across the South.

Kendrick Magee, 24, was killed Thursday while driving in the storm.

Amite County coroner Campbell Sharp said Magee’s car crashed near the rural town of Gillsburg in southwest Mississippi, killing Magee.

Neshoba County coroner John Stephens said another driver was killed Thursday afternoon when his car hit a downed tree on a highway south of Philadelphia, Mississippi.

Officials have not released that driver’s name.

There is widespread damage in the county, including a collapsed wall at a medical clinic, downed traffic signals and canopies, and trees on houses.

Damage from the storm system was reported in at least 24 of Mississippi’s 82 counties.

Damage reports are also coming in from Alabama.
