Video: Students Gather to Remember Softball Player Killed in Crash

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- The life of a Columbus high school student and softball player, is remembered after a tragic car accident.

Monday morning, students gathered outside before class, to remember the life of Taylor Harris. The 16-year-old lost her life early Sunday morning, in a car crash on Highway 82.

Harris was driving Eastbound, when she apparently lost control of her vehicle, and hit one of the pillars on Highway 45.

Lowndes County Coroner, Greg Merchant says Harris was pronounced dead at the scene.

Columbus High School students prayed, and released balloons into the air to pay their respects. The people who knew her, say Taylor had the type of smile that was contagious.

“She was that type of person,” said Eric Thornton, the Softball Coach at Columbus High School. “Every time you saw her, she was going to say something or do something to make you laugh, or to make you smile.”

The passenger in the vehicle, Keayra Hughes, who is Harris’ teammate, was airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center, and then taken to Memphis. Hughes remains in critical condition.
