Suspect wanted in Columbus shooting surrenders

Antonio Thompson, Jr. surrendered to police Monday in Columbus.

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A shooting suspect wanted by Columbus Police has turned himself in.

According to CPD, 22-year-old Antonio Thompson, Jr. surrendered to authorities Monday night at the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.

Thompson is a key suspect in in the late August shooting on the 1500 block of 24th Street North.

Officers say one man was shot and had non-life-threatening injuries.

Thompson was charged with Aggravated Assault.

And during the investigation, Thompson’s mother Peytonilla Frierson was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact.

CPD said she was later released on bond.

Thompson remains in the Lowndes County jail and is awaiting a bond hearing.
