Teenager arrested in connection to deadly Columbus shooting

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus police make an arrest in a deadly shooting.

18-year-old Shaquavus White of West Point has been charged with manslaughter.

Law enforcement arrested White in Clay County. He is being held without bond in the Lowndes County jail.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled early next week.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant said Xavier Dora, 18, died in surgery at Baptist Golden Triangle.

Merchant said an autopsy will be ordered.

Another victim, whose name has not been released, sustained non life-threatening injuries.

The shooting happened in an abandoned house near the intersection of 17th Street and 5th Avenue South around 4:30 Thursday afternoon.

Columbus Police Chief Fred Shelton said police are still trying to piece together what went wrong.
