The Golden Gates Quartet of Starkville celebrates 51 of years singing

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss (WCBI) – After more than half a century of singing as a group, the Golden Gates Quartet of Starkville is still blowing out the tunes of gospel.

Members of the community and family surprised The Golden Gates Quartet of Starkville, a gospel group that started 53 years ago.

The late former manager and founding member Eddie Bibbs’s children wanted to help this group celebrate its ministry and legacy.

“History is being lost everyday and I thought its time for us to stop and pay tribute to them for the work they have done for 50 years. They go from state to state doing ministry of singing songs.”

Melodies from the quartet still echos throughout the community and nation, bringing hope through their faith.

“If some home burns, they link up with other ministries. They sing and raise money for that family in need. So there are so many things that this group does along with other quartet groups that people don’t know that they do behind the scenes.”

With just two active founding members, the group has expanded its membership, bridging the past and the future. By allowing the younger generations to join, Golden Gates Quartet continues to travel around the US to spread a message of love.

“”Well, I learned how to conduct myself with meeting people and how to meet people with love and show myself friendly first. And I was always told if you show yourself friendly, then you can gain a friend.”

Even after more than 50 years together, there’s no slowing down as they are amping to sing more.

“We are looking forward to recording another CD, and we pray that everybody when it hit the market, get you a piece of it because in my heart it’s going to be good. It’s going to be blessed by God.”

The Golden Gates Quartet will travel to Starkville IOWA next week spreading more love through song.
