Hampton is currently being held in the Lauderdale County Jail.

“This guy, with our investigation, we think we’re pretty sure that he is the shooter. We’re still currently investigating,” said Macon Police Chief Davine Beck. “We’re trying not to release as much as we can release on this case because we don’t want the case to be compromised.”

The victim, Roman Mattox, is the son of Noxubee County sheriff Terry Grassaree.

Mattox was released from the hospital Tuesday and is in stable condition.

If anyone has any information on this incident, you’re asked to contact the Macon Police Department or call Crimestoppers.
