Tuscaloosa Company Credited For Finding Fraud

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) – A Tuscaloosa company says it helped uncover a fraud scheme involving the construction of a sorority house at the University of Alabama.

A statement from Greek Resource Services Inc. says the company first discovered questions about South Carolina attorney Jennifer Meehan and finances for the new Gamma Phi Beta house.

The company says it then worked with the Secret Service to investigate a scam.

The 39-year-old Meehan pleaded guilty Tuesday to submitting false invoices for equipment and furnishings for the $14 million sorority mansion. The Sandy Springs, South Carolina, lawyer was president of the group’s housing corporation.

Prosecutors say Meehan submitted false invoices and was paid $375,000 by Greek Resource Services, which handles finances for Greek-letter social groups. The company says its systems exposed the scheme and recover the money.
