IUKA, Miss. (WCBI)- An assault in Tishomingo County sends two people to the hospital and one person behind bars.

Tishomingo County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Mark Carpenter Tuesday. The 49-year old is charged with assault with a deadily weapon after a stabbing incident.

Investigators say they were called to an Iuka home at 7 AM yesterday. Once deputies arrived on the scene they found one person stabbed in the stomache.

During the stabbing, the victim was holding a 9 millimeter pistol. The victim fired the weapon towards the ground, causing shrapnel to hit another person in the foot.

The stabbed victim is recovering at Magnolia Hospital in Corinth. The other person wounded, was treated and released at North Missisippi Medical Center.

Carpenter is currently in custody at the Tishomingo County jail, awaiting a bond hearing
