OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) — Some Ole Miss students who want to catch up on their history can check out a new display on campus.
The university is installing a plaque, offering context for a Confederate statue.
The plaque also gives some background on when James Meredith was admitted as UM’s first African American student.
It serves as “a reminder of the University’s past and of its current and ongoing commitment to open its hallowed halls to all who seek truth and knowledge and wisdom.”
School officials say many hours of thought and study went into the design and wording of the plaque.
You can find it at the entrance to Lyceum Circle on campus.
Construction should be complete by the end of the month.
