VIDEO: 2nd Annual Carroll County Toys For Tots Give Away

CARROLL COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – With Christmas just a few days away the Carroll County Branch U.S. marine Toys For Tots program is busy working to make sure area kids have a happy one.

The Carroll County Toys for tots program is putting the phrase “Tis the season to give” to work.

“Today is the day of giving. Today is the day that we are going to pass out toys to the less fortunate families that have registered to receive toys,” said Toys for Tots Coordinator Calbrina Woods.

Calbrina Woods is the Toys for Tots Coordinator for Montgomery and Carroll County. She says helping give the area kids a merry christmas required a helping hand from everyone.

“We got donations through different companies and organizations like the Millennium Men, The masons, Evergreen Lodge , Aflac Insurance. Just different people Dixie Roofing . We also set up donation boxes at different stores to collect toys,”said Woods.

123 families Registered families for the toys and there are 18 families on the waiting list. Woods says it’s her obligation to give back.

” Well somebody did it for me. When I was younger, my mom was a single mom and we didn’t have a whole bunch either so there was the U.S. Marines Toys for tots and then when I moved here I though about it and was like there’s nothing like that here in this county,”said Woods.

The Carroll Montgomery County toys for tots program has only been around for two years. Volunteers at saturday’s event say they are thankful for the program and plan to be there to help for many years to come.

“It’s for us to help the kids around the community because all kids aren’t fortunate to get gifts,”said local volunteer.

“Because everybody not blessed so anytime you receive a blessing it’s best to give a blessing,”said local volunteer.

Saturday’s event had more than 2000 toys and raised 3, 000 dollars in donations.
