Video: Columbus Gets New Narcotics Officer

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Columbus police have a new officer to help fight the war on drugs.

On Tuesday, city councilmen voted to hire Anthony Nelson as a narcotics officer.

Nelson currently runs the Lowndes County Juvenile Detention Center.

His start date hasn’t been determined.

At the meeting, councilmen also voted to appeal the recent ethics ruling, stating city leaders violated Mississippi’s Open Meetings Act.

The city says it did not break any laws.
