Video: Fanning-Otis Lives Up to Final Four Promise with Mississippi State Team Bus Driver

DALLAS, Texas (WCBI) — A promise is worth keeping, and this promise was twenty years in the making.

Long-time team bus driver, Everett Kennard, drove the Mississippi State men’s basketball team to New Jersey for the 1996 Final Four.

While he was there, Sharon Fanning-Otis had just completed her first season as head coach of the Mississippi State women’s basketball team and had a talk with the Bulldog bus driver.

“I told Everett, when our women’s team makes the Final Four, I’ll help you wash the bus,” Fanning-Otis said. “And now, I’m here!”

The bet was made, and 21 years later she made good on her promise.

On Friday, the former Mississippi State head coach joined Everett Kennard before MSU’s Final Four match-up with UConn with a brush, a bucket and soap; ready to go to work.

“This will be the cleanest bus that’s ever been in Dallas, Texas,” Fanning-Otis proclaimed.

Both Fanning-Otis and Kennard will be in attendance tonight when the Bulldogs take on the UConn Huskies.
