VIDEO: A High School Prank Quickly Takes An Ugly Turn
NOXUBEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-A senior class prank at Noxubee County High School ended with two students possibly facing charges, and a mess in the halls.
Chocolate syrup, milk, and honey, among other food products, were scattered in the hallways all across the school.
It was intended to be a funny prank, but suddenly took a left turn.
“We got a call that there was an incident at the school,” said Noxubee County Sheriff Terry Grassare. “That there was a big commotion. Prank day fight or something, but that’s what the 911 call called and told the jail.”
Sheriff Grassare said his deputies immediately went out to the school to check things out.
“What we did really, we came in and got control, got everybody settled down then took everybody back to the gym, and sort of just brought a calmness back into the situation,” the sheriff said.
However, a few parents tell WCBI the situation was anything but cool.
“At first I was upset because when my daughter called me she said dad come get me, I’m in jail,” said Said Leterrius Goodwin, who’s daughter is a senior at NCHS. “I asked her for what. She said just come get me. So when I got down here I talked to the officer that brought her down here.”
The upset father said his daughter was sprayed in the face with mace by one of the school’s resource officer’s during all of the commotion.
Their child was just one of two students who were arrested for the prank.
“One thing led to another, they gave me, said what they were holding her for, or whatever so I left,” said Taquanda Goodwin, who’s daughter is a senior at NCHS. “Went up to the school and had, a, you know, a meeting, and I came back here so when I got back here they released her. I’m just not pleased with how they take things into matter up at the school. Something needs to be done better.”
Goodwin believes the entire situation was mishandled and blown out of proportion by school officials.
“”My child, I’m not saying that my child is right all the time,” the mother expressed. “Kids get from up under you, and sometimes they do lie, but in this particular situation she wasn’t lying. It was the officer that told the lie and I don’t feel nan charge should be brought against her.”
Sheriff Grassare said his department will talk things over with the school district to determine what action will be taken.
