VIDEO: Housing America Initiative

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – It’s a big piece of the American Dream: home ownership.

Today the Columbus Housing Authority hosted its first “Housing America” initiative.

Representatives from banks, insurance agencies, and real estate firms from the area set up shop at the Trotter Convention Center.

The initiative promotes affordable housing, homeownership, financial literacy, and housing service opportunities.

“We felt a great need to bring these resources here so that the people will have some hope and opportunity and options to choose from, hopefully get information out to the public so that they can have hope as to where they can go to meet some of the needs that exist in terms of finding safe, decent, adequate, and affordable housing,” said Columbus Housing Authority Executive Director, Debra Taylor.

According to the Columbus Housing Authority, there are more than 300 people on the waiting list to get safe, affordable place to live.
