COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – For the last 56 years, a bake sale has been helping keep a special place special in Columbus.
A large group of women put on a bake sale to raise money for the Lee Home.
The money helps to preserve and renovate the home as they see fit.
When customers first get there, they have a chance to get a look at all of the baked goods.
Then, they pick a number and line up, and get ready to race for their goodies.
“The members of the Columbus Lowndes Preservation of Antiquities, they do the baking, they do the cooking, and all of the baking, and then our committee, a small committee that puts it on, we work to do it. We meet once in October, and then put the bake sale every Tuesday before Thanksgiving,” says Chairman of the Country Store Bake Sale, Katy Waters.
All of the baked goods are priced according to presentation and ingredients.
$5,000 to $6,000 dollars are raised from the big sale and items go quick.
