Video: Meet The New Superintendent For The Aberdeen School District
ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) – The new Aberdeen School District Superintendent is settling into his new office.
Superintendent Jeff Clay started his new role on July 1st.
Clay was the Oxford School District’s Assistant Superintendent before he was hired by the Aberdeen School Board back in May.
He says he’s looking forward to working with teachers, getting to know the community, and achieving new goals.
Education is a subject that Clay is very familiar with.
The Tupelo native is moving on from working at an A ranked school district, to a C ranked district that’s had two years of clean audits.
“If he can get the school to, you know, where the one he’s coming from, it will be super,” says Aberdeen resident, Christine Shirley.
The school board’s vision for the district and its growth opportunity is what brought Clay to the Aberdeen School District.
“We want to continue with the interim assessments, so we want to make sure that we know where the kids are at points and time. We just want to make sure that we’re doing the things that are in the best interest of the kids all of the time. We want to make sure that we’re engaging our community,” says Clay.
Clay’s ultimate goal is to keep pushing the district and its ranking forward.
“The number one school district in the state. That’s the goal that’s going to drive us and we’re going to wake up every day striving for.”
This retired teacher and current Aberdeen teacher believes the district is heading in the right direction.
“I know that based on my past experience as an educator, that sometimes you need new lifeblood into a system and so I’m hoping that he will bring some new fresh ideas into our district, so that our students can be up on top,” says retired educator, Donna Blount.
“We as public service, we’re going to be under any boss that we’re going to be working for and we are excited to work,” says current teacher, Remberto Vealmota.
A meet and greet reception for Clay and Aberdeen School principals will be Thursday evening evening at the Magnolias.
