VIDEO: Mullen says Fitzgerald Flashes Brilliance, And Also “Head Scratchers”

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI ) — The Mississippi State Bulldogs return after a tough double overtime loss to BYU.

Starting quarterback Nick Fitzgerald has made some big plays for the Bulldogs this season, but has also been inconsistent throughout games.

Against BYU, the sophomore quarterback completed 47% of his passes, while throwing one touchdown and two interceptions, but also made plays with his legs, adding 41 yards and two touchdowns.

Head Coach Dan Mullen says the ups and downs are all a part of his young quarterback’s progression.

“You’re going from a guy who was a big time fifth-year senior with five spring balls under his belt, a guy Nick will be three years from now, to a rookie on the field”, Mullen said.

“We just got to keep working, we got to make sure we’re keeping it…we’re doing things he’s going to do well, try not to make it too complicated on him, within the decision making so that he can become more confident in his decisions, make them faster, make them better, and play more efficiently.”
