CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — One arrest has been made in connection with a Clay County homicide that happened this weekend.

James White, 38 of Houston, was shot multiple times and killed inside of this house on Dixie Road outside of Montpelier Friday night.

So far the investigation has been a frustrating one for law enforcement.

“It’s been hard getting the truth,” says Sheriff Scott.

Sheriff Scott says there were a handful of people in this house behind me Friday night during the shooting, but they say they were all in a back room and don’t know what happened.

It’s an issue the Sheriff says he will not put up with.

“People continually lying to us. I’m gonna do what I have to do to try and get this case solved. So if we have to start locking people up for lying to us, this is serious. Our community takes it serious, citizens in our community are scared when something like this happens. So we’re gonna do everything we can to try and get the right person and put him in jail,” says Sheriff Scott.

One person is already behind bars for that exact reason.

Jermarcus Ivy, 20 is charged with Hindering Prosecution.

But the search continues for answers.

“Multiple witnesses right now that we’re still trying to locate. We’re actually going back re-interviewing witnesses because of all the stories that we keep getting. So that’s really slowed us down. That’s been really frustrating for us. Again, that’s when we’ll start charging for coming in and lying to us in a homicide investigation,” says Sheriff Scott.

If you have any information on the case please call the Clay County Sheriff’s Department.
