VIDEO: Prairie Opportunity Presents Local Resident With New Window Ac Unit

COLUMBUS, Miss.(WCBI)—For more than 2 years one Columbus woman has been without air conditioning during the humid Summer months.

We have an update to the story we first told you about earlier this week.

Grace Pointer is like many local residents.

She lives on a fixed income.

She has serious health concerns and, for months, she has lived without air conditioning.

On Tuesday, we reported that Mrs. Pointer applied to Prairie Opportunity for help.

They told us that they have to wait on federal funding and then approve requests based on need.

Friday there was action at Mrs. Pointer’s home and by this evening, workers expect there to be air conditioning.

They began earlier Friday morning by removing the old unit that hasn’t worked in years.

Then, there was additional electrical  work and of course the installation of the new window unit.

“That’s good all that’s real good but it’s not only for me. This opens the eyes to the other people let them know that there’s help if they need it. But you just got to get on it, “said  Pointer.

It’s fortunate that the funding came through to help Mrs. Pointer.

Now, the community response was amazing.

If you go to our Facebook page, you will see just how many people offered to help Mrs. Pointer.

It’s one example of neighbors helping neighbors.
