VIDEO: Returning The Stolen Items Back Home
ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) – After a weeks long rash of burglaries, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department recovered more than 40 stolen items Wednesday night.
Tense moments for the Kinsey Family, Wednesday night, after their home was hit, in a rash of burglaries.
“I came home from work yesterday and noticed the back door kicked in and I looked and the gun cabinet was empty,”said Aberdeen resident Fraser Kinsey.
There were 14 guns taken from the Kinsey residence alone.
Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell says finding the stolen property is up to law enforcement but retrieving it after it’s found is up to the owner.
“We ask them what’s the gauge of the gun it is, what kind of markings is on the weapon, how long have you had it where did you buy it. People are pretty good about having some kind of trail,”said Cantrell.
Patricia Reese Howell is a Farm Bureau Insurance Agent in Aberdeen. She says another way to get your property back quicker is documentation.
“With every customer we try and tell them make documentations on every item that they own inside their home. Serial numbers are good to keep and to have some people take photos. These days they take their cameras and they just video their different items. It’s good,”said Cantrell.
The Kinsey’s had homeowners insurance but Fraser says sometimes that’s not enough.
“Don’t depend on your homeowners insurance policy to pay it off. Get you an individual policy on your firearms and other valuables,”said Kinsey.
“Now every policy is different. Every scenario is different every theft is different. We encourage everyone to contact law enforcement that they also then contact their insurance company. From that point on the insurance company will then look at each individual policy and that policy will tell exactly what type of coverage they have on that theft item,” said Reese Howell.
More than anything the Kinsey family is thankful for the quick action of the Monroe County Sheriff’s department.
“Well it’s great to have them back. What surprised me was how fast we got them back. By the time the police got to my house, they already had them. Had the people caught,”said Kinsey.
“Don’t come to Monroe County because this sheriff’s got your name and number so stay out,”said Kinsey.
Deputies believe the recovery of the stolen items, could possibly lead to breaking more cases.
