STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Dozens of tents pop up at Mississippi State on this first day of class.

Businesses and restaurants lined the Drill Field to introduce themselves to new students and staff.

Free samples and items were given away. Businesses say they have fun meeting the students.

“A lot of international students. Students out of town, out of state, they need a local bank, and for us this is really awesome advertisement, so it’s kind of a win, win. Freshman students get to learn about banking, and we get to kind of get them to come on in and teach them,” says BancorpSouth Customer Service Representative, Liz Brent.

Student organizations also participated.

This is the 6th year for the Shades of Starkville event.
