Video: Starkville Election Contest Heading Back to Circuit Court
STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- Johnny Moore’s election contest of the Starkville mayoral race is headed back to Oktibbeha County Circuit Court.
Wednesday, the Mississippi Supreme Court denied Mayor Lynn Spruill’s request for an appeal of the circuit court’s denial, to dismiss Moore’s election contest.
After Spruill’s narrow victory over Moore, he claimed there were voting irregularities with how absentee ballots were accepted and rejected, along with who was allowed to cast a ballot.
Wednesday’s decision means the case now returns to Circuit Court in Oktibbeha County.
Special Judge Barry Ford will set the election contest for hearing.
Moore’s attorney says his client will ask the court to set a hearing date as soon as possible.
