VIDEO: United Way Adopt A Family Project
LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss.(WCBI) – The Lowndes County United Way needs your help this season.
It’s annual adopt a family project is well underway and I spoke with the organizer to find out what more is needed to give families in the area a Merry Christmas.
“My heart will hurt to have to have to call five moms and say we just couldn’t help,”said United Way Director Renee Sanders.
As Christmas draws near the Lowndes County United Way is doing double time to help area families in need.
“This year in 2017 with the Christmas Adopt A Family it is an opportunity for the community to get involved with Christmas. Our goal was to get 48 families in the community that needed help for Christmas and we exceeded the goal and we have 110 families on the list however,”said Sanders.
Sander says they only know of families in need, thanks to the community.
” We got help from our local agencies, or pastors or teachers because the see directly into the household and each family has a circumstance or a situation that happened that was uncontrollable could have been a death could have been lose of a job and now we are asking partners in the community to adopt a family,” said Sanders.
A local family picking up gifts Saturday say it’s a gift alone that there are people around them that care.
“It’s a great benefit. Dealing with unexpected life situations this has really helped me out a whole lot this holiday season. Them being able to still enjoy Christmas. Like you say it’s all about family but to have a church family even consider us for this is a blessing it’s self,”said local family.
Sanders says adopting a family isn’t the only way to help out.
” Maybe you can’t adopt a family but you would be willing to adopt a mother or a child or adopt the grandfather or some small way. Maybe you can’t do that supply some wrapping paper or tissue or tape. Some type way to get involved . Maybe that’s too much but you’re willing to volunteer. We need wrappers We can’t just wrap all the gifts ourselves,”said Sanders.
Sanders goes on to say they will be wrapping gifts everyday next week. If you are interested in volunteering you can email Renee Sander at rsanders@uwlc-ms.org or call at 662 328 0943.
