VIDEO: World Changers Making A Difference In The The Golden Triangle.

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss.(WCBI)—For most students they look forward for summer time to kick back, relax, and enjoy time away from the hard labors of school. For others the goal is to make a difference in communities all over the country.

134 junior high and high school students from across the nation are spending a week in Golden Triangle developing homes for families in need.

Meet Summer Rushing. She says the World Changers Organization could not have come at a better time.

“I’m a single mom, been living here seven years. This place is something that my dad had to get, spur of the moment, after I left an abusive relationship. He literally paid a little bit of money for this place and moved it here. It’s been falling apart ever since,”said Homeowner Summer Rushing.

World Changers is 27 years old but this is the first year Jordie Skinner has worked for the group

She says she had to jump on board after seeing the selflessness of the people who get involved each year.

“So these students are paying about 340 dollars each to come and be here this week. All they are doing is working. They aren’t getting any type of gain other than just the satisfaction of doing this and that they are doing it for the lord,”said World Changers Communication Specialist Jordie Skinner.

The students are staying at Woodland Baptist Church for the week, where they will sleep on floors, cots and blow up mattresses. Ian Misiak says somethings are more important than comfort.

” I’ve been so fortunate in life and it just feels good to help other people sometimes. The lord has always said love your neighbor as yourself. So just going out and helping the local community. By the end of the week you can see the finished product and it always makes the home owner happy,”World Changers said Volunteer Ian Misiak.

Skinner says assisting so many communities wouldn’t be possible with out a helping hand.

“We’re partnered with the Baptist Convention in the area,The Golden Strings and they tell us which sites are needed. They get in touch with the pastors and they let us know, these are the sites that we want you to come work on. They provide the tools and all that and we just provide the labor,”said Skinner.

Rushing says the application for this program was completely taken care of thanks to the pastor of Woodland Baptist Church recognizing the need. She says there’s only one emotion she is feeling, surprise.

“Shocked, it’s just so hot you wouldn’t expect people to just be out here devoting their time to do things for somebody they don’t even know. It’s amazing. I’ve been very happy,”said Rushing

There are 14 different crews at 14 different sites in Golden Triangle developing homes this week.
