Video: Volunteers “Get Swept Up” in Starkville
STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- College football is right around the corner, and for the city of Starkville, that means some game day prep that involves getting your hands dirty!
Volunteers picked up their supplies early Wednesday morning, for “Get Swept Up!” It’s an annual clean-up day, where different groups spruce up Starkville, ahead of the first Mississippi State home football game.
Volunteers have to first sign-up and register. Then they are assigned an area of Starkville to pick up trash, sweep, and do some landscaping.
This event is hosted by the Greater Starkville Development Partnership.
“We try to spread out across the whole community and we give teams of every size to clean-up anything from a small area to a large area,” said Jennifer Prather, Director of Tourism.
The Oktibbeha County Hospital donated gloves to volunteers, and local businesses donated other cleaning supplies. Prather says even residents can help make the city look its best, on game day.
“We want everybody to buy in and change their flags on their store front, and their houses, and really spruce up their landscaping, so that our whole community looks spic and span.”
