OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (WCBI/Ole Miss Athletics) – Ole Miss baseball’s Will Golsan was selected as one of 30 candidates for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award on Wednesday. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

The senior out of Columbus, Mississippi, is one of five Southeastern Conference players chosen, alongside Kaylor Chafin and Cason Sherrod of Texas A&M, Nick Horvath of Florida and Kentucky’s Troy Squires.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Golsan was elected one of two team captains by his teammates this season, and he has provided leadership on and off the field in the Rebel locker room. The exercise science major has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll for three straight years, maintaining a 3.4 GPA.

Golsan has been extremely active in the community throughout his collegiate career. He and the Rebels participate in Reading with the Rebels each semester, and he’s also taken part in the Bats and Balls Clinic. He and his teammates also collect money each year for Adopt a Basket, which is a program that allows for needy families to have warm meals at Thanksgiving.

On the field, Golsan is approaching 200 games played as a Rebel and will almost certainly hit that milestone this season. He hit .312 as a junior and has played the gamut of positions throughout his career. This season, he has anchored the Ole Miss outfield, holding down center field in each game.

The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists in late April, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four C’s of community, classroom, character and competition. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2018 College World Series® in June.
