Winston County man convicted of murder will not get new trial

WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Winston County murderer will not get a new trial.

Kevin LaDexter Carter claimed the court should not have allowed prior domestic violence incidents between him and 39-year-old Angela Collier to be admitted during the trial.

Collier’s roommate and uncle testified at the trial that Carter and the victim had a violent past.

The state court of appeals found no error and upheld Carter’s conviction of second-degree murder, aggravated assault and felon in possession of a weapon.

He was sentenced to 70 years in prison.

Carter shot and killed Collier in February 2017 in a home near Noxapater.
