Woman shot, investigation begins in West Point shooting

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – A Wednesday night shooting in West Point leaves a women recovering from a gunshot wound and a man behind bars.

West Point Police Chief Avery Cook says officers responded to this home on 5th Street around 11 last night.

He says the suspect is Michael Bradshaw.

Cook believes Bradshaw and the victim, Leslie Cox, are cousins.

He says the shooting took place in the front yard and stemmed from an altercation between Bradshaw and another family member, who the chief believes was the intended target.

When officers arrived, they found Cox lying in the road.

“Dispatch came back and said that they were transporting the victim to the hospital by personal vehicle. They had officers dispatched to the hospital and to the scene and got to the hospital and the victim had been shot in the forearm,” says Cook.

Cook says Cox was treated and released from the hospital last night with non-life threatening injuries.

Bradshaw turned himself in this morning and faces an Aggravated Assault.

His bond is set $10,000.
