Work begins on $15.8M parking garage for children’s hospital

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Work has begun on a $15.8 million parking garage at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Contractor Brasfield & Gorrie says it is building the five-level 517-space parking deck, which will be located next to an expansion of the medical center’s Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital.

The contractor, based in Birmingham, Alabama, is also building the seven-story, 360,000 square-foot pediatrics tower. That will include 88 private neonatal intensive care rooms, additional space for surgery and pediatric intensive care, an imaging center designed for children and an outpatient clinic. The overall project is budgeted to cost $180 million.

The parking garage is supposed to be completed in summer 2020, while the Batson expansion is supposed to be finished in fall of that year.
