Columbus Airman Picnic

COLUMBUS, Miss.(WCBI)—Protect and serve go hand in hand with education for the students of the Columbus Airman Leadership School.

These Airmen are working towards becoming the next military leaders. And, it begins with this airman leadership course.

Command Chief Rita Felton says,”So this is very important to their career and to go into the next tear of leadership in the Air Force.”

A course they’ve almost completed and are now enjoying a little late summer fun before they graduate.

Sr. Airman Taylor Varone says, “I think it’s awesome and really fun and there’s a lot of good food and it really makes us feel like we are appreciated and we have a lot of support.”

They Hope this leadership course will advance their future.

Felton says,”This is the first tear for their military education. This is very important to their foundation because once they are selected to become a staff Sargent in the united states air force they are required to have this school done and completed before they can take that position.”

Twice a year instructors from Montgomery Alabama’s Maxwell Air Force Base come to Columbus to work with the students. On this trip the instructors got to enjoy the Columbus Lock and Dam and some good food and fellowship.

“This is one of my favorite favorite days because this is an opportunity for them. Our students, our airmen to understand the impact that we have here in the community and as well for us to join in with them and just to know they are part of a great team it’s just not about Columbus Air Force base but it’s about our community and the golden triangle region working together to get the job done,”says Felton.

The Airman Leadership Students will graduate on September 1st.
