MAYHEW, Miss. (WCBI) — Thursday’s Community College shooting in Oregon also makes people think about the safety of our local schools.

EMCC President Dr. Thomas Huebner says the safety of students, faculty and staff is always in the front of his mind.

He says even though students do not live on one of their campuses, the safety measures are the same.

He says the school has their own armed police force and an alert system to let people know there is danger on campus.

It’s a system the school regularly studies and updates as needed.

“As this topic kind of evolves, as we are met with challenges, we’re going to be in a state of reviewing what we do, and how we do it to make sure that we can, in light of the resources we have, do the very best we can to protect our students, faculty, and staff,” says Dr. Huebner.
