BOONEVILLE, Miss.–  At the regularly scheduled Board of Trustees meeting this month, Northeast Mississippi Community College president Dr. Johnny L. Allen asked for and received support from the Board to retire from service to the college effective June 30, 2015.

Allen, 60, was named the ninth president of Northeast in 2004.  Previously he served as vice president of instruction and student services (2003-04), dean of instruction and vocational-technical director (1990-2003) and as an instructor of agriculture and natural science (1982-1990).  He began his career in education as an agriculture education teacher at Alcorn Central High School (1978-82).

Allen, one of only two alumnus of Northeast to serve as its president, led with an unmatched commitment to the students, faculty and staff of Northeast and to he fiscal credibility of the institution.

Under Allen’s leadership, the college opened campuses in Corinth and New Albany and completed several construction and renovation projects on the Booneville campus, the highlight of which was the comprehensive student services center, T. Jack Ramsey Hall, named for the current Board chairman.

Allen has been married to the former Christi Cartwright of Booneville for 38 years.  They have two children; Jessica Morris and John Jr.  They are the proud grandparents of Laura Kate Morris.
