Calhoun City Hires New Police Chief

CALHOUN CITY, Miss. (AP) – Assistant Police Chief Tito Lopez will take over the Calhoun City Police Department when Chief Benny Langford retires on Sept. 30.

The 58-year-old Langford has been in law enforcement for 35 years. He also has been a county constable for the past 20 years and is seeking re-election. He has been police chief for 15 years.

Langford tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (http://bit.ly/1Ldc4Hj ) that he’s hoping to reduce his workload from two jobs to just one.

Lopez has been with the department since 2000. He also works part-time for the county sheriff’s department. He has three months to take over the department of five full-time and two part-time officers.

Lopez says the department will not have an assistant chief in the future, due to budget constraints.
