Columbus Man Dies in Monroe Crash

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. –A one vehicle crash occurred on Highway 45 in Monroe County near the Lowndes County line around 1:15 a.m. Thursday.

A white 2010 Hyundai Elantra was traveling south when it left the road and crossed over the northbound lanes. The vehicle flipped and entered a pond on the east side of the highway.

The driver, 38-year-old Antonio Moore from Columbus, was pronounced dead at the scene by Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley, who has ruled drowning as the cause of death. Moore was ejected from the car and It took rescue workers several hours — his body was recovered at about 5:20 a.m. — to find him in the water around the accident scene.
