Corinth Schools Announce $394K Literacy Initiative

CORINTH, Miss. (AP) — A grant of $394,000 will allow the Corinth school system to expand its literacy and reading programs and reach out into the community.

Mississippi’s new Literacy-Based Promotion Act requires that beginning in the 2014-2015 school year a student will not be promoted from third to fourth grade who has not achieved appropriate reading proficiency.

Superintendent Lee Childress tells a local newspaper the system’s literacy and reading programs in components for children, parents, teachers and the community.

The grant was provided through the Innovative Approaches to Literacy program.
