Davis Trial Delayed

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Former Southaven Mayor Greg Davis’ appeal will now be heard Aug. 5 by the state Court of Appeals.

Court officials say the oral arguments were moved from Tuesday.

Davis is seeking to overturn an order that he repay $73,000 to the city for the alleged misuse of public funds should be thrown out.

In briefs filed with the court, Davis’ attorney argues Davis was legally reimbursed for money spent on city business. They say Davis’s charges on the city credit card were approved and paid by the board of aldermen.

Davis was sued by State Auditor Stacey Pickering for allegedly misusing more than $170,000 in city funds for trips, expensive dinners and clothing. Davis repaid $96,000 but still owes $73,915, including interest and penalties.
