‘Fireworks on the Water” Returns to Columbus July 4

COLUMBUS AFB, Miss. – Columbus Air Force Base, Lowndes County, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Columbus, in conjunction with the presenting sponsor, Visit Columbus, will host “Fireworks on the Water”, a free and open-to-the-public event, 5 p.m. July 4 at the east bank of the Stennis Lock and Dam.

The event will feature live entertainment by local bands as well as activities for children, food and drink vendors, and will conclude with a professional fireworks display choreographed to music.

“Initial planning is underway and we are building a great team,” said Nancy Carpenter, CEO and Executive Director of Visit Columbus and Fireworks on the Water co-chairman. “Visit Columbus is proud to once again join with our community partners to bring this event to the public.”

For children, activities will begin at 5 p.m. with inflatable jumpers and waterslides and other activities. The fireworks show will begin after dark.

“Fireworks on the Water will be a fantastic patriotic event celebrating our nation’s independence,” said Capt. Sharon J. Elliott, Aerospace and Operational Physiologist at Columbus Air Force Base and event co-chairman. “We invite everyone to bring their friends and families to this spectacular event.”

Event-goers are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Pets are not allowed, and personal fireworks, including sparklers, are not permitted.

The last Fireworks on the Water happened in 2013, and brought crowds of over5,000. This year’s crowd is anticipated at 8,000 visitors.
