Flooding Can’t Stop Faith At Bigbee Baptist Church

MONROE COUNTY, MISS. (WCBI) – – Waves of water took over a church and its parking lot in a small town in Monroe County. The two hundred member church isn’t letting the flood water bring them down though. Sunday school rooms on the bottom floor of Bigbee Baptist Church are nearly filled to the top with water. Church member, Sandra Stephens, parks in the same parking spot for church every week. She was in shock when the spot was no where to be seen.

“It feels devastating to drive up where you go every Sunday and see where you park under water along with it, halfway up the building, especially the downstairs area.”

The first Sunday after Christmas was different for the church because it’s filled with water instead of people, but that difference isn’t bringing them down.

“Bigbee is a close knit church so wherever we are, even though we prefer to be where we’re use to, wherever we are I know that we’ll still have that spirit of Christmas because we’re just a loving church family.”

The flooding caused the church to look like it was in the middle of a pond.

“We had worried about it because it has a tendency to flood in this area, but I’ve never in the twenty something years I’ve lived here, seen it this bad in this area.”

Many church members along with the preacher worked over night into Saturday morning trying to do what they could to prevent more damage.
Members will be visiting their choice of churches in the area until they know when their church family can reunite under one roof.

“Keep Bigbee in your prayers and all the people affected by the water.”
