COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — The Columbus school board is honoring one of its own for his years of service.

Glenn Lautzenhiser is leaving the board after serving for 25 years.

Family, friends and school district employees held a reception for him Tuesday night to show their appreciation.

Lautzenhiser says he’ll miss working with the board members.

“The school board has always been a labor of love,” he said. “I think school board members can influence the direction of the community as well, if not better than anybody else, and it’s just so important to the future of our country, to our city, to our state, and I loved it because I love young people. I love the people that I worked with.”

Lautzenhiser says he’ll spend his extra free time giving speeches and presentations in the community.

Dr. Josie Shumake replaces him on the board, and will serve a five-year term.
