GUNTOWN, Miss. (WCBI)-There were tears and cheers today at Guntown Middle School as students helped grant a wish to a classmate battling cancer.

With help from Saltillo Elementary School, the Guntown students raised $5,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

During a special assembly today, the school donated the money to the organization…then gave 6th grader Jace Counce a big surprise.

The money will help send him on his dream trip…to Disney World.

Jace was diagnosed in January with lymphoma.

Jace’s father, Rod Counce said, “Unless you have seen a child have to deal with the illness and the treatments that a child may have to take at St. Judes…it’s very, very hard on them. Having something to look forward to means everything.”

Jace has been undergoing treatment. His cancer is now in remission.
