Video: Hamilton Spreads the Word about Breast Cancer
HAMILTON, Miss. (WCBI) – The Hamilton community came together Saturday afternoon to raise awareness about Breast Cancer. The United States Postal Service is honoring Breast Cancer Awareness by offering a signature stamp this month. The Hamilton Post Office also hosted a free, community event.
“We all know someone who has been affected by breast cancer and this is our way with the Postal Service to promote Breast Cancer Awareness with the community here in Hamilton,” says Twanda Tate, Hamilton’s Post Master.
The event included health screenings, give-aways, food and entertainment. Jacqueline Hamilton is a two-time breast cancer survivor and has been in remission for 8 years.
“Breast cancer runs in my family. My mom actually had it and three of her sisters had it. All four, they died from breast cancer. So now we’re just trying to do everything right, follow God’s word and the doctor’s words and orders and just trying to stay a survivor,” says Hamilton.
Hamilton says she participates in events like this because it’s important to get breast cancer information out to the public.
“Spread the word about getting early detection and getting that first diagnosis early because they say the first time, you catch it early, you have a better chance of survival,” says Hamilton.
This is the first year that the Hamilton Post Office has hosted a breast cancer awareness event.
