er and I used to talk about it books and stuff and she told me something about that she was having another book come out and I was like..Really? Really?,” Columbus Resident Jessica Beaird said.

The novel was released at midnight and scorers of people piled into stores to pick up a copy of the book.”

The book is set 20 years after her first novel, ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’.

“It almost feels like visiting an old friend, and I think that everybody wanted to hear more of what Harper Lee had to say,” Starkville ACA teacher said.

While Lee’s books take place in the Jim Crow Era, readers still believe there is a connection with the main players in her writing.

“You can kind of tell in her writing that she didn’t necessarily agree with everything that was going on,” Beaird said

Many people grew up reading “To Kill A Mocking Bird” in school, and one teacher believes today’s student will read this one as well.

“I think this will be a nice thing to have them read at the beginning of the school year,” Logeston said.

There’s still debate, as to whether the 89-year old author wanted to publish the book, however, it’s clear fans are happy to see another Harper Lee book on the shelf.

“I’m very excited about it. I’ll be on my sofa this afternoon finishing this book before anyone gets supper,” Logeston said.
