COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Some North Mississippi high school leaders get an up close look at Columbus Air Force Base.

On Tuesday, members of the Lowndes Young Leaders organization toured the base, where students got to see the Air Traffic Control tower and airplane displays, plus have lunch at the newly renovated Columbus Club.

The organization is a nine month leadership program for high school sophomores.

Organizers say the tour shows area students just one of many things North Mississippi has to offer.

“It’s to show them that there are multiple opportunities, industries, businesses, everything in this community to where you do not necessarily have to move away to have a great future,” said Joey Bragg, Columbus-Lowndes Chamber of Commerce.

“I want to pursue a career in the medical field, so I would love to come back to Columbus and just go back to Baptist Hospital, and put my efforts in there,” said Mallory Amos, student at Heritage Academy.

The Lowndes Young Leaders organization is sponsored by the Columbus-Lowndes Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, and Mississippi University for Women.
