MACON, Miss. (WCBI) – A federal lawsuit claims Noxubee County has more people on its voter rolls than the number of people who actually live there.

The American Civil Rights Union is accusing the Noxubee County Election Commission of failing to maintain and update voter rolls.

According to the organization, the numbers on the voter rolls did not match census data in the 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2015 election cycles.

The most recent shows a difference of more than a thousand people.

The lawsuit asks the court to find the election commission in violation with the National Voting Rights Act and for the voter rolls to be updated before the March 2016 federal primary elections.

American Civil Rights Union is a conservative organization based in Washington D.C.

Attorney Henry Ross says the group has filed similar lawsuits in Clarke, Jefferson Davis, and Walthall Counties in Mississippi.
