Lee County Kids Learn About Horseback Riding

LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Thanks to the city of Tupelo, some Lee County area children got the chance to do a little horsing around, Saturday.

As part of the city’s effort to encourage fitness, children took part in the first ever Horsing Around, a fun day at Lee County at the Brewer Equestrian Center.

There was horseback riding and other fun events, but first the children learned from some of their experienced peers what you have to know before you get on the horse.

Trainer Chandler Head says you have to know that a horse is a partner, not just a tool, so there are some do’s and don’ts.

“How not to holler around them, run around them, ” she said. “How to groom them handle them with care. Horses are like human beings. They have feelings. They can get scared easily. So we’re teaching how to be safe around them, how to take care of them groom them make sure they feel all right.”

The Brewer Equestrian Center offers lessons to anyone who wants to ride.
