Lowndes S.O. Makes Seizure

On Tuesday March 8, 2016 Agents with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at the address of 1007 Shady Street in Columbus. As agents made entry to the residence several people dove out of a back window and ran on foot.

Two of the subjects who ran were caught and detained as well as five other subjects who were in the front yard and inside the residence. Agents searched the house and seized over two ounces of cocaine both in powder form and crack cocaine along with several sets of digital scales and bags used to package the drugs for sale. One pistol was found in the residence and a second pistol was found concealed on one of the suspects.

Gregory Deon Dowd, 28, of Columbus was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. Dowd was transported to the Lowndes County Detention Center where he will remain until a bond can be set.

This is one of numerous narcotics seizures made over the past two weeks by the Sheriff’s Department with thousands of dollars in illegal narcotics taken off of the streets. It is an ongoing investigation and more arrests are expected.
