STARKVILLE, Miss. ( WCBI) — With the enrollment numbers continuing to rise each year, Mississippi State University is steadily growing, but some improvements have been tough for students as they try to maneuver around campus.

“Traffic is crazy,” MSU Alumn Telvin Hadley said.

When you enter MSU’s campus you will see two things. Heavy traffic flow and a lot of construction. MSU has several new construction projects that are currently in progress. Now although new facilities are always nice, some students say it has now become a hassle for them to drive around campus.

“They have total streets blocked off where you have to go the opposite way or either change your whole route to get to where you need to go,” MSU student Rashad Shelton said.

“It’s hard to get from building to building. I’ve been having to struggle waiting ten to 15 minutes in line,” Hadley said.

In fact, the campus has even had to create new driving routes due to the heavy construction that’s going on.

Current MSU student Rashad Shelton has been on campus for years, and said with all the construction campus has now become unfamiliar to him.

“I’ve actually had to pull into certain parking spots and just try to do a U-turn in order to get out of the spot I was in because of the gating and streets being blocked off,” he said.

Shelton said what used to take three minutes to get to certain classes now takes ten minutes. With the heavy traffic flow, some students say its better to ditch your car and walk.

“I’ve actually been late for my classes before trying to drive through traffic, so to me it’ll get you where you need to go faster. Plus this is a walk-able campus,” he said.

And not to mention the gas students burn while waiting in line.

“I don’t like to wait in line. I love the little precious gas that I have. You got to wait in line for five to ten minutes just to get to the next stop sign or the next stop light.” Hadley said.

Although no one will probably complain once everything on campus is finally finished, even Students that might not get to see the end result understand having to go through this process.

“I think it’s something that’ll benefit students more in the future that’ll be coming within the next few years, but as far as us students now, I think we just have to suffer through it,” Shelton said.

The MSU Planning Committee are still in the process of finding ways to try and make traffic flow a little smoother on campus.
