MHP Investigating New Year’s Eve Wreck

ALCORN COUNTY, Miss. (Press Release) — The Mississippi Highway Patrol continues to investigate a New Year’s Eve crash in Alcorn County that injured six people.

Troopers responded to the crash about 5:15 p.m. at the intersection of US 45 and MS 356 (Rienzi crossing). Upon arriving it appeared 31-year-old Rienzi woman Sarah Huggins was traveling westbound on MS 356 and attempted to cross US 45, in a 2009 Toyota Camry, when she apparently failed to yield to the north bound traffic and pulled into the path of 2010 Nissan Armada, driven by 31-year-old Booneville man Jeffery Wildmon.

31-year-old Booneville woman Allison Wildmon and the family’s two children were passengers in Jeffery’s vehicle. Jeffery and the three passengers all received minor injuries from the crash. They all were properly restrained.

Huggins was airlifted with life-threatening injuries to North Mississippi Medical Center (NMMC). There were two passengers riding with Huggins. 28-year-old Marietta woman Jennifer Thomas was uninjured. 31-year-old Rienzi man Timothy Brassfield was also airlifted to NMMC with life threatening injuries. Huggins nor any of the occupants in her vehicle were wearing a seatbelt.

Physical evidence gathered from Huggins’ vehicle appears to suggest alcohol or drugs could have contributed to the crash.

Charges are pending further investigation into the wreck.
