Video: Mississippi State University Students Shake Hands With Possible Future Employers
STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)-Every year Mississippi State University hosts several career days to help students prepare for the real world. Hundreds of students came dressed in there best in hopes to get a job or at least an idea of the future career.
“This is a great opportunity for employers to showcase themselves to the students and an opportunity for the students to investigate the type of employers that recruit on our campus,” says Scott Maynard.
Mississippi State University students get the chance to learn about internships and full-time jobs with local, state, and national businesses.
“I believe that it helps me greatly because I won’t be as nervous to talk to people, I can be recognized by potential employers and just have the experience and also help me in the long run,” says Larry McGee.
With over 140 vendors on display, MSU junior Larry Mcgee, is hoping to gain experience and possibly a job to help build his resume. Senior, Sorah Chea says it’s important to scope out possible future employers instead of waiting until after you graduate.
“If you wait till the last minute you won’t have any experience so you should come out here and see how you do first and then next you will really know what to do and what to bring…what to wear,” says Sorah Chea.
Companies like 3M who offer a variety of jobs look for certain qualifications that would make a great employee.
“First thing is obviously that first impression when you meet someone then you take that resume have they applied themselves in school and what initiative have they taken to go get experience in there field,” says Trevor Bragwell.
As a student you may not get hired on the spot, but building relationships and learning about different companies may benefit you in the future. Tomorrow the career day will be focused on Engineer and Technology majors.
