Mississippi Tax Collectors In Line For Raise

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Mississippi county tax collectors and deputy tax collectors could be in line for pay boosts up to $6,500 a year.

The House gave final passage Thursday to Senate Bill 2505 by a 120-0 vote. It now goes to Gov. Phil Bryant for his consideration.

The bill would allow tax collectors and deputies to get a $2,000 yearly raise if they complete a first stage of official training and another $2,000 raise if they complete a second phase. If collectors complete a third phase of certification training, they would get an additional $2,500 raise.

Right now, depending on the value of all property in a county, collectors make between $41,500 and $64,000 a year. Anyone serving as both a tax collector and assessor receives an additional $5,000.
